Summary
This movie begins with a man and his crew using robots and modern technology to search for a diamond that was supposedly lost in the Atlantic with the Titanic. The searchers find a drawing of a young woman wearing the diamond, but do not find the diamond with it. When a very old woman named Rose Calvert claims that she is the woman in the drawing, she and her granddaughter fly on a helicopter out to the research ship and she recounts her memories of her time on the Titanic. As she tells her story, viewers watch as her younger, 17 year old self, falls in love with a poor, 3rd class passenger named Jack Dawson in 1912. She loves Jack, but she is already engaged to a rich, arrogant man named Cal Hockley. Cal and Rose's mother, Ruth, do everything in their power to prevent Rose from seeing Jack, afraid that she will choose to be with him rather than Cal. When the Titanic strikes an iceberg, Rose is forced to choose between being safe and getting on a lifeboat with her mother, or running back into the ship to save Jack, which will most likely result in her death.
